ALT01-Introduction to Gum Bichromate Printing
One Day Workshop / Tutor: Louis Haugh / Max. 4 per class
The Gum Bichromate (or Dichromate) process uses a chemical that sensitises Gum Arabic to UV light. This allows us to colourise the Gum Arabic with water colour paint or guache (for a stringer colour). An incredibly versatile process that can produce beautiful abstract prints or even full colour photographs.
The course will introduce students to the chemistry involved in the process, how to coat paper and develop using running water and paint brushes. This course is suitable for artists, photographers, screen printers or anyone with an interest in truly crafting handmade images. No knowledge of photography is required prior to the course.
