PSA01 Photography Through The Ages
Week long immersive photography workshop
Experience and learn about photography form it origins in 1840 to present day
Beginning in 1842 with the Cyanotype process on Monday, then moving through the ages with Wet Plate Collodion, Large and Medium Format Photography, Silver Gelatine Printing, 35mm Photography and finishing with a digital masterclass on Friday.
Monday Morning Group introductions and orientation followed by a practical photography workshop looking at exposure, composition and using your camera’s manual settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) more effectively.
Monday Afternoon Looking at one of the earliest photographic processes known, we will learn how to prepare paper and print our images using the Cyanoptye Process, giving a striking Prussian blue and white image the Cyanotype Process is the perfect introduction to the origin of photography.
Tuesday Morning We will spend the morning on an urban photowalk, putting into practice the principles learned on Monday.
Tuesday Afternoon Discover the magic of Wet Plate Collodion, an iconic process synonymous with The American Civil War and striking portrait photography.
Wednesday Morning A introduction to Large Format Photography using 5×4 inch sheet film.
Wednesday Afternoon Develop your own 5×4 inch negative in the darkroom and make a stunningly detailed contact form the negative.
Thursday Morning Using 35mm film cameras we approach more modern photographic practices, learn to apply your knowledge learned so far to 35mm photography.
Thursday Afternoon Learn the correct workflow in the darkroom, from developing your roll of film, making a contact sheet, to selecting a frame as a final print.
Friday Morning A digital masterclass, taking your image from your camera and processing in the digital darkroom, preparing it for print.
Friday Afternoon Ending our journey through photography by admiring the work made throughout the week while enjoying a celebratory glass of Prosecco.
