The Darkroom was founded in 2010 by Mella Travers at humble beginnings of Block T, Smithfield.
In 2016 Mella & Darragh Sinnott relocated the Darkroom to its current fully fitted location in Stoneybatter, starting a new fresh era for The Darkroom.
Today also sharing the space is Louis Haugh, a photographer & artist, who specialises in alternative processes. You’ll find Louis teaching those forgotten techniques on a regular basis.
At the space, we house 2 darkrooms and 1 photo studio.
The first darkroom is where Mella practices and is a large space housing 8 enlargers and a separate film processing area. It is suitable for analog film photography from 35mm to 5X4 negatives.
Next door is the second darkroom is where Louis practices and is dedicated to Analog Alternative Processing. It also houses a large 10X8 format enlarger.
Both darkrooms and the photo studio can be rented for specific use. Get in touch if you’d like to find out more!
Whether you’re completely new to the world of photography and eager to start your learning journey, or looking to expand your skills and knowledge, The Darkroom has a course for you.
All our courses can be provided as group sessions, or on an intensive, one to one basis. Duration and prices may vary, please have a look at upcoming events or subscribe to the newsletter to get news from us!
